What do you think you are, for Christ’s sake? Crazy or something? Well, you’re not. You’re not! No crazier than the average asshole walking around on the streets.

Top 5 Reasons to watch Deadwood | 1. The relations between the characters

Take note, all shows trying to pride yourself on your relations: THIS IS HOW IT’S FUCKING DONE.

This show has a fairly large cast, but somehow they managed to focus on a large number of pairings instead of just choosing a couple. Some only needed one scene to become friends, for others it took 3 years to start appreciating each other. And there’s no bullshit of suddenly dropping one pairing in favor of another or anything.

And best of all is that pretty much every pairing is unique: even the romantic ones have such different dynamics to them. But there is: friends, allies, lovers, enemies, enemies-turned-allies-because-of-a-shared-enemy, friends-of-friends, people who dislike each other, people who don’t trust each other, people who dislike each other but who do trust each other, mother figures, father figures, doctor and patient, etc.

And to top all that off there’s also this group dynamic, where not everyone likes each other but they all care about (the safety of)the group.

And again, none of it came easy: I think it may take watching all three seasons to fully appreciate this one because the writers really took a slow burn with how some of the pairings evolved, but it’s so worth it.
